Al: "Let's go, while we're young" Judge Smails: "Do you mind Sir, I'm trying to tee-off" Al: "I'll bet ya 50 bucks you slice into the woods" Judge Smails: "Gambling is illegal at Bushwood and I never slice" (Ball Slices into the woods) Judge Smails: "DAMN!!!!!!!!!" Al: "OK, you can owe me" Judge Smails: "I OWE YOU NOTHING!" Caddyshack is the funniest film I have ever seen. 25 years after it's theatrical release, I still find myself quoting lines from this film ad nauseum. What Caddyshack boils down to is the right cast and the right script at the right time. The cast is unrivaled. Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray and Ted Knight give Caddyshack an ensemble feel. Ted Knight's Judge Smails is my personal favorite as the ultra right wing conservative judge. Some of his lines are hilarious: Danny: "I was hoping to go to college but unfortunately it looks like my parents aren't going to be able to afford to send me" Judge Smails: "Well, the world needs ditch diggers too" OR Spaulding: "I want a hamburger, no a cheeseburger, I want french fries..." Judge Smails: "YOU'LL GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT!!!" Rodney Dangerfield turns in a star-making performance as Al Czervik, a crude, crass construction developer who upsets the balance of power at Bushwood by bringing his blue collar ways with him. Dangerfield is the KING of one-liners: Al: "Hey honey you must have been something before electricity...How'd you like to make 14 bucks the hard way" OR Al: "Hey Wang, what's with the pictures its a parking lot...Wang, I think this is a restricted club so don't tell 'em you're Jewish." OR Al: "Oh, this is worst looking hat, I've ever seen, I mean you buy a hat like that you ought to get a free bowl of soup with it...(looking at Smails who is wearing the hat)...but it looks good on you" Chevy Chase and Bill Murray are hilarious. Murray's Carl Spackler may be the most quoted sports movie character of all-time. Chase's Ty Webb has some great one-liners too, but my favorite scene with him is during the final match when Ty puts his arm around Judge Smails and starts blowing in his ear. As you can tell, I could go on and on about this movie it's just that good. The bottom line for Caddyshack is this: BUY IT, WATCH IT (REPEATEDLY) and WORSHIP IT. Highest Recommendation.
