A previous reviewer, David Boulet, indicated that he has previewed this set and it has been issued in the same old 4x3:letterboxed widescreen format, wich means when you view it on a 16x9 screen, you will have black bands at the top and bottom as well as on both sides of the picture. When playing the first DVD versions of these films, I thought something was wrong with my TV or DVD player. I tried every option imaginable on both the TV and DVD player to get an acceptable image. I tried the zoom, stretch, expand, as well as standard and narrow, features on my 16x9 TV, all of which just seemed to amplify the horrible picture quality. I then tried changing the video settings on my DVD player in combination with each TV setting with equally bad results. I even tried playing the DVDs on three different DVD players and nothing helped. The fuzzy picture quality was so distracting that it was painful to watch. My wife and I just love these movies, so sucker that I am, I bought them the second time they were issued expecting that no reputable company would perpetrate such an abomination on a loving public a second time. WRONG! It was the same hideous offering! If David Boulet is correct about the reissuance in the same formt, then I have no intention of buying this set, and I would caution any prospective buyer to stay away from this product until Republic Pictures does the right thing and issues them in a truly remastered anamorphic widescreen version. If anyone knows the responsible contact person within Republic Pictures (aka Republic Entertainment, Inc.), please post it in a review.
